The Outer Banks have a history of being very difficult to get out of your head and into your hands. The outer banks voice breaking news is basically a version of the same thing. Apparently, the Outer Banks don’t like talking to the outside world. Last night, the Outer Banks voice was broken, and they had to send out a distress call to warn us about the approaching storm. A lot of the people who live on the Outer Banks are in the middle of a massive hurricane and were warned about it.
Sounds like the Outer Banks is in a bit of a weird spot with the storm. The other day it sounded like there was a tornado in the sky, and last night it sounded like there was another hurricane in the same spot. I feel like we’re a bit of a step ahead of the rest of the country in a lot of ways, but I guess we’re still in an area that gets a lot of natural disasters.
I’ve found that when you live somewhere that gets a lot of natural disasters, you tend to be a bit more aware of them. Not as much as when they’re a few days late, but you have a better sense of what’s happening. I’m from the “where they’re always on time” state and I’m not even close to being a hurricane expert. That being said, I have been in a couple of them myself.
The good news is that we at Outer Banks Radio, the community radio station out in the middle of nowhere, have been experiencing some good news recently. We have received a call from Outer Banks Radio’s sister organisation, the Outer Banks Association of Radio Stations, and they have been able to get the station’s radio waves down to the other side of the state.
This is a relief for the Outer Banks Radio folks who have been stuck in a long drought. The association is a group of stations that have been around since the late 60s that do pretty much anything you can imagine. They have a huge variety of programs and events, but have been in financial trouble for a while. They have been trying to get support from the state government for years, but have not gotten it on anything like this scale.
In the last few years they’ve been trying to get the state to invest in the station. But the state has been reluctant to give them the money they need. So they’ve been trying to turn to outside support to help, which has been coming from all over. The Outer Banks Radio station has been able to do a lot with its new fundraising efforts, including getting a lot of grants. But they have not been able to get any of this support on their own.
Outside support has been coming from different angles. Some of it from the private sector, mostly from big tech companies like Apple and Microsoft. The last two years have seen a lot of changes in the tech industry. Companies like Google and Microsoft have been ramping up their efforts to try to get the government to fund the station. Apple and Amazon are the other major players, but neither have actually invested in the station yet.
