One of the first skills most people pick up is how to navigate the app store, but there are plenty of other skills that seem as useless as wallpaper. The truth is, these skills have real value and can help you maximize your time in countless ways.

In this article I’m going to teach you a new skill called “how to improve at wallpaper”. In just 60 minutes, you’ll be able to change your wallpaper pixel 3 dayz background smoothly in Windows 10 and better control how much battery power specific apps use.

1. Maximize Your Desktop Experience

Right click your desktop, or press the Windows key and X to open the quick actions menu. Then select “desktop settings”. The first option is “desktop background”, clicking this will let you change what you see when no apps are open. You’ll recognize this as your wallpaper for apps, but now we’re going to organize it differently. The default layout is a picture followed by a solid color, but you should change this to a solid color followed by a picture. This will make things look nicer and reduce battery usage when idle on your laptop or tablet.

2. Organize Your Apps Into Tab Groups

This is actually very simple, just press the Windows key and T together to open a menu where you can organize your apps into tabs.

If you click “personalize” then drag all applications into different groups, you’ll be able to organize apps by theme. You can go as crazy as you want, but I had to put Youtube and Facebook in their own sections because they use very different video formats. This is a good way to stay organized and make sure that nothing is using too much battery power.

3. Stop Listening To Music While Charging

This one is for the MacBook owners out there, but if you use the charging station then you can choose to have the computer charge the battery instead of listening to audio. This will prevent your music from playing while it’s being charged, which will save a lot of battery life.

4. Reduce Video Bitrate For Streaming Services

Netflix and Youtube are great services to watch your favorite shows/movies…but sometimes they can chew through your data plan pretty quickly. The best way to fix this is to adjust the bitrate so that you’re not using as much data.

The easiest way to do this is with a Youtube add-on for your browser.

Install “Stream Controller” for Chrome or Firefox and then open the add-on by clicking the icon in the top right corner of Youtube. You’ll see a bunch of options, choose “streaming quality” .

Now choose your bitrate and turn on “reduce redundancy”, if you don’t know what any of these mean just try it out.

5. Use Your SD Card For Storage

You may have noticed that when you delete an app off of your phone or tablet that it can leave some behind. If you’re not careful, this can use up your space pretty quickly and cause performance issues. A simple way to fix this is to move all that data to the SD card. This will free up the internal storage for apps and games, and will help speed things along just like a good magician does with cards.

6. Delete Applications That Are Kills Battery

If you notice something using a lot of battery power then you might want to delete it (if it’s not important). Just go into “power settings” and press “change plan”.

Then click the “change power profile” and select “High performance”. This will make sure that nothing is using all your battery life, which is why some apps like Spotify and Spotify radio become a blur.

7. The Secret To Wifi Routers

I promise this secret isn’t magic. Wifi routers are the best way to improve your wifi signal, but they can drain a lot of battery power for no reason. You can tweak this by installing “airplane mode” which turns off all internet functions but does not stop other devices from connecting to you.

This will save you a ton of money on your data plan by turning off unnecessary things, and allow you to use less wireless connection to help increase your signal strength.

8. Change The Way Apps Run In The Background

A lot of times apps will start running in the background on your phone, which can use a ton of battery for no reason. One easy way to fix this is to select “background apps” from the power settings menu. This will show you all the apps that are running at all times, and give you an option to stop them from using battery power in the first place.

9. Time Zone Adjustments

If you travel a lot then you know what it’s like to set up your clocks before going on vacation or going to school. For those that don’t, just know that the time zones are an issue. If you fly or drive where it’s currently daylight outside then you might want to adjust your time zone before going to bed. Just click the “change time” link on your device, then click “manual” and set your time zone there.

10. How To Limit Apps From Being Used At Night

If you have a smartphone with a screen that doesn’t turn off automatically, then you can use this trick to save battery power in one simple way. The easiest way is to enable automatic brightness instead of allowing the screen to stay on all the time. This will make sure the screen doesn’t use any battery power at night when it’s not needed.
