Marvel’s Secret Invasion is one of the most iconic Marvel storylines, with a history of ending in climactic battles. Writer Mike Costa has been relegated to writing ties to this event: an annual special and tie-in miniseries. But this time, he may have met his match as the latest threat for Earth—the alien Skrulls—is about to enter Marvel’s world and it’ll require some big writing chops to handle them.
Although he seems to have some major issues with how the Skrulls were introduced into the Marvel universe and as a species, Costa hopes to rectify that in his upcoming miniseries. But having written other Skrull stories before, it’s safe to say he already knows how they work in the comic universe.
Marvel has been doing an interesting job of casting the upcoming event series. The main characters will be from the secret invasion and Avengers issues, including:
other returning cast members:
A mysterious space vessel of unknown origin has just crash-landed in Savage Land, Antarctica. So far, the Avengers don’t know much about this wreckage.
The team has been called in to investigate this ominous spacecraft and what it may mean for Earth.
There is a lot of mystery surrounding this spaceship; something has been killing the indigenous wildlife around it and if there are any signs that are indicative that the occupants have returned to their spacecraft, there could be major implications for Earth and its heroes.
The MCU is all about making characters relatable and recognizable, while also believable. So far, Marvel has managed to bring in different actors that reflect this ideology. To provide a clear example of how this works, Marvel will reveal the Skrulls through a character that audiences know well: Coulson.
Keep in mind that the premise for the series is based on one of the most iconic comic story arcs, “Secret Invasion”. This allows Marvel to introduce new characters into their cinematic universe.
The first two episodes of the series will focus on Coulson, May, Mack, and Fitzsimmons. Marvel will also delve into what’s happening in New York City, where former S.H.I.E.L.D director Victoria Hand (Samantha Carter) and The Avengers’ Maria Hill are trying to set up an impromptu defense for Earth against these new extraterrestrials invaders who are hiding within the human form.
Initially, it wasn’t known if Samuel L. Jackson would be returning to the MCU as Nick Fury in “Avengers 2”. But now it appears he will but in a new and interesting way. According to what Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said to MTV, Samuel L. Jackson will be in his first major MCU role and that role is currently unknown. Let’s speculate what it could be.
But of course, those speculations are just that–speculations.
The second and third episodes of the series will focus on The Avengers’ encounter with another alien race and how they’re dealing with their strange presence on Earth.
In 2023, Marvel Studios will release a new eight-episode series, “Secret Invasion, ” overseen by showrunner Costa.
This release date will be at the same time as the first Marvel Netflix shows “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage”, which are now streaming exclusively on Netflix.
In late 2023, it was announced that Samuel L. Jackson would replay his role as Nick Fury
The third season of the MCU’s Netflix shows would then begin filming in early 2019 with the full release schedule to follow. This is all before any of these massive comic book events such as “Avengers: Endgame” or “Captain Marvel”.
