The news this morning was a bit different than usual. In fact, it was downright shocking.
The police department in Oxnard, California is taking on the role of the “public relations/communications official” for this city. In other words, they are the ones the media goes to for information. They, not the regular cops, are the ones who report the news.
In the past, the media has been extremely hostile to the police and the public. They’ve often shown very little respect for either. But now that the police department is the go-to media person for Oxnard, they are doing a pretty good job. This is because the media is the only source of information that the public can use to get the facts of the case out to them.
In Oxnard, they have a case. Their case is called “the OXD, or the Oxnard drug bust”. In a nutshell, they have a bunch of local drug dealers who are trying to get a bunch of meth into Oxnard. The cops have been tasked with rounding up the suspects, seizing the drugs, and then going to court to prove their case.
Oxnard is a fairly small city. The case is pretty much a local one, but the police are still very involved. The case is being handled by Oxnard’s police chief, who is also in charge of the local district attorney’s office. The district attorney is a very big part of the case because of the “informal charges” that they can bring against suspects.

The case being taken up by Oxnard Police Chief, Michael DeGraw, is apparently one of the biggest local police investigations of late and one of the biggest in the state of California. The incident has been in the news a lot in the last few days, but thankfully no one was killed. The Oxnard Police found Michael DeGraw in the parking lot of the residence he was being held at this afternoon.
He was in the hospital yesterday, but it’s not clear if he’s been released. According to reports, he’s charged with felony assault on a police officer. If he’s released, he could face up to 11 years in prison.
