Have you found yourself with a spare room? There are a lot of great ways to take advantage of the extra space, and you might be torn on whether to use it as a home office or a guest bedroom. But why not both? Here are some tips for choosing the right bedroom suite and other furniture to make this room work for both purposes.

Choose a modern minimalist bed sets

Anytime you plan to use a space for more than one purpose you should look for furniture that has the clean lines and slim frames that take up less space while still being comfortable. This goes doubly for the bed. Upholstered headboards are all the rage right now, but they take up a lot of extra room. Look for a comfortable and well-designed bed without headboard or footboard.

Minimalism has its advantages in interior design, and when you are sharing your office with the guest bedroom suites it is even more important. In addition to foregoing the headboard, consider other features of a bedroom that are not really necessary. Keeping this attitude will help you design your office/bedroom at a low budget.

Get the most basic bedroom furniture set to keep costs and clutter down

The typical bedroom set only comes with 3 pieces by default – the dresser, one nightstand, and the bed itself. Most people add another nightstand to have one on each side, but you might not want to do that if you are working with a very small space.

There are some ways you can cut down on the clutter of furniture by getting pieces that can serve more than one function. For example, you might want to choose a bedroom furniture collection in which the nightstands have nice deep drawers. Placing one on either side of the bed can negate the need for a dresser, giving you more space for your home office corner.

Choose the right home office furniture

It can be easy to get carried away when designing a home office. Many people try to make it a professional space similar to that in which they have worked their whole lives, but that can be costly and eat up a lot of interior real estate. Like the bedroom furniture set, don’t try to get the entire collection. You only need to have a place to work, which usually means a desk and a chair.

If you need two monitors or other necessities, a small corner desk probably isn’t going to cut it. Go as small as you can while still being comfortable and functional. Instead of an executive office chair, look for an ergonomically beneficial seat that has a small, lightweight frame.

You can also save space by replacing the office chair with a storage ottoman. You will still be comfortable in your work station, but you can stow the ottoman under the desk to make more room for your guests. Meanwhile, you can use the interior hidden storage for office supplies, files, references, and other items that you would normally have at hand.
