It is premised on Mattel’s namesake fashion doll line and is the movie’s first real-time adaptation following a few computer-animated short and broadcasting television films. The movie stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, with Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, and Kate McKinnon in supporting roles.

Premise

Margot Robbie appeared for the first time in a trailer for the upcoming Barbie movie, during which she was acting. Ryan Gosling stars as Ken, alongside Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, and Michael Cera, among many others.

The Suicidal behavior Reserve team actress plays the disputed doll, which was first released in 1959, in a film directed by Little Women scriptwriter Greta and based on a book she co-wrote with highly regarded writer Noah. Mistress America and Frances Ha both were adjusted from screenplays they co-wrote.

Following the release of this film, Mattel will reveal another Polly Pocket adaptation, directed by Lena Dunham and starring Lily Collins. Dunham stated in October that she was working on furthering the screenplay’s development. Mattel is also responsible for the films Rulers of the Spiritual realm and Hot Wheels.

Fans’ Expectations with Upcoming Series

Robbie intimated in an August 2021 discussion with Fashion right that the position of Barbie “comes with lots of burdens” and “a lot of sentimental interconnection.”

“Usually, people have heard Barbie as well as think, ‘I understand precisely how much film version this is heading to be,’ but then they listen Greta Gerwig has been attempting to produce and direct it, and that they’re as though, ‘Oh, certain that the, perhaps I don’t.'”
