Pot belly is a restaurant in Central Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. It serves Chinese food and has been open for over 30 years.
The menus at the Pot Belly are not extensive. They have a few main categories that include fried rice, lo mein noodles, egg foo young and kung pao chicken or beef. There are also some side dishes such as sweet potato fries and side salad while there is dessert too with sesame balls and ice cream on the menu as well.
The hours of the Pot Belly are 11 am until 10 pm. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays and open the rest of the week.
The prices are very reasonable at the Pot Belly with most items around $10. This is affordable Chinese food without all the ambience of a fancy restaurant. The atmosphere is casual at this restaurant with plastic table cloths and no decor really other than a few posters on the wall and some Asian lanterns hanging from the ceiling. The food is very good so it’s worth paying a little extra for it at such reasonable prices.
No coupons or deals are offered by the pot belly. Their prices are already quite reasonable so there is no need for any deals or coupons to get a discount here. It’s one of the cheapest restaurants around and the food is just as good as it would be at any fancy restaurant in Boston or Cambridge. Just be aware that you get what you pay for at this restaurant and they don’t spend a lot on decor so if that’s important to you then perhaps there are better options out there but if not then this is an excellent Chinese food place to eat at in Cambridge.
The staff at the pot belly are all Queens (female) workers who are in their early 20s. They are friendly and courteous but not overly so. They don’t think they’re God’s gift and they remember that this is work and they shouldn’t treat you as if you’re too good for them. If you’re quiet and respectful then you won’t have any problems with them though.
The place is very clean and the bathroom is always clean right out of the oven door as it was when I was there on a busy Friday night. There were no leftover foods or dirty dishes all around.
The food at the Pot Belly is excellent but they don’t have a lot of variety on the menu. This is more of a Chinese restaurant that specializes in fried rice and lo mein noodles with some other items on the menu besides that when it comes to the main dishes. The quality of the food is very good though and you won’t be disappointed by it at all so if variety isn’t important then come on in and try this place for yourself.
The pot belly gets an 8 out of 10 star rating from me. The food is excellent, the prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is very casual. It’s not a fancy Chinese restaurant with a lot of ambience but if you just want some real good Chinese food for cheap then come on down to the Pot Belly in Cambridge.
The pot belly restaurant address is: 480 Massachusetts Ave. Cambridge, MA 02139. It’s right on Mass Ave near Central Square in Cambridge and it’s just a couple of minutes walk from Harvard University in Cambridge.
I’m going to use the 10 point star rating system from now on for this site. It will be similar to the U.S. star ratings system but it will be slightly different in that each category will only have a total of ten ratings instead of five as with the U.S. star rating system that I went with previously. The categories for this site will now be:
Star 1 – Must eat place – This is a great place to eat at, it’s very enjoyable, delicious and high quality food should be enjoyed here and I’d give this place a ten out of ten star rating or very high in most cases.
Star 2 – Good place – A good place for food and very enjoyable, I’d give this place a seven out of ten star rating.
Star 3 – Average place – I’d recommend this place as a good choice to eat at but it’s not the best, nice enough but nothing exceptional here, I’ll give this place a five or six out of ten star rating.
Star 4 – Below average – This is just an average choice that you wouldn’t really be disappointed in if you ate here but there are better places to eat at in most cases, I’ll give this place a three or four out of ten star rating.
Star 5 – Fail – This is a bad place to eat at and you’d be better off not eating here. I’ll give this place a one out of ten star rating.
Star 6 and below – Super fail! Do not eat here!! This place is horrible and it’s so bad that it’s on the level of a fail but even worse than that, it’s a super fail for me and I won’t even go here so no rating for this category but if I saw such a restaurant then I’d give it the super fail rating of all stars which would be zero stars if such is possible.
I used to use a ten out of ten star rating because I liked the idea but it ultimately didn’t work very well as I found that basically every restaurant got rated a nine or ten which made them all look the same. I’ll continue with the seven out of ten star rating for now until I can come up with a way to better grade restaurants and have a more enjoyable site overall.
