7 Common Myths About Board Games

Board games are all the rage right now, and there are countless options to choose from. From classic favorites like Monopoly to new hits like Cards Against Humanity, you never know what your next favorite game could be. And while most of us already have our favorite game in mind, it’s important that we know the truth about some common myths surrounding board games. With a crunch word whizzle is game your mind, these myths are sure to be busted.

Every time someone begs their friends to play Catan with them, they have to put up with a bunch of misconceptions about what it means to play board games. People still believe that board games are for kids, or that you need multiple hours of attention and the right kind of people in order for them to be fun. Well, I’m here today to tell you these are all wrong! Board games represent an entire different world of entertainment out there waiting for you.

7 Common Myths About Board Games :

1. The more people you have, the better the game

This is not necessarily true. Some games, like Risk for example, are best played with 4 or 5 players. You could have too many players in a game and it will not be fun for all of them. Some games are even designed to have the maximum number of players that can play, which in some cases is only 12 or 16. So what is the proper number of players? It’s really up to you! The only way to know is to try it out, and then you can make an informed decision about how many players you want to play with.

2. All board games are the same

Each board game does have its own little world, but each one is unique in its own way. Games may share a few similarities, but that doesn’t mean they all should be categorized as the same thing. Board games can be very different from each other, so if you’re looking for a new game, take some time looking at different options and see what appeals to you.

3. You can get away with buying used games

This is not necessarily true. Each board game is different, so you can’t really get away with buying a used game and assuming it will be the same as a new one. If you’re worried about this, try buying the newest version of the board game. It won’t make any difference in the gameplay, but it’s always better to have a newer version than an old one. Of course, if you are going to buy a used copy for some reason, make sure that it has been tested and has not been harmed in any way.

4. All board games are educational

This is not true at all. While some games, like Monopoly, can teach you a thing or two about the actual world, others have absolutely nothing to do with learning or education. Some are just for pure entertainment and will not help you learn anything at all about the world around you. So if you’re looking for something educational, there are always options out there.

5. Board games are just for kids

While some board games may seem like they are for kids because of their theme or subject matter, it doesn’t mean that out of the entire world of board games, this one is not meant for adults to enjoy as well. There are just as many, if not more, board games are not meant for kids. Some board games aren’t even meant to be played with kids at all.

6. You can’t enjoy the same game over and over

This is not true at all. While some people will play the same game over, and don’t get sick of it, there are others that after just one time playing it, they have had enough and never want to play it again. Different people have different tastes in board games, so there’s no telling whether or not someone will enjoy playing the same game several times.

7. You should go with the most popular game

While there are many popular board games, some of them are just not great. There are plenty of others that are much more enjoyable and engaging than the most popular ones out there. And some of those games, like Cards Against Humanity for example, have become huge hits because they’re actually pretty bad and have an interesting twist to them. So if you’ve never tried a cool board game that wasn’t very popular, give it a shot! You might be pleasantly surprised!
