9 Amazing Job Hacks

Since the beginning of time, people have been searching for ways to get ahead in life. Using hacks is a modern and beneficial way to make that happen: but what are these hacks?

Hacks are shortcuts that improve our efficiency, or even give us an advantage over competitors in illumina video interview. They’re used by all types of workers, from freelance writers on up to CEOs of large companies. Hacks come in a variety of forms – from taking certain vitamins to managing your time better – but they all serve the same purpose: finding new ways to do things faster and easier! Below you’ll find nine amazing job hacks which can help you get promoted faster or just survive those long work days with a smile on your face.

9 amazing job hacks are:

1. Get Really, Really Good at Something

Sometimes the easiest and most obvious hack is to just work on learning a new skill that your boss views as important. If you’re not a typist, start learning to touch-type. If you’re not good at time management, start using calendars religiously. If you’re bad at presentations, get really good at them! This will help make it easier for your boss to justify giving you more responsibility or projects – and therefore more money – and will make them respect you more because they know how valuable you are.

2. Learn How to Ask Awkward Questions

“Awkward” doesn’t have to be a bad thing: it can actually be a great opportunity for you to learn more about your job, meet new people and make contacts, persuade your boss or recruiter that you’re the right person for their team, and more!

Of course, you’ll want to do this in the most polite way possible with respect for those who answer you – but that doesn’t mean it has to be hard. Instead, consider asking questions that will allow you to learn – and give you even more information about your responsibilities, skills and contact information for other positions in your company, if necessary.

3. Ask Your Boss for More Duties

If you’re a bad team player, work on that! If your boss won’t promote you to the next level because you don’t go out of your way to help others around you… Well, I guess it’s time for that awkward question again: ask them what extra tasks they might have for you on their team. Offer to help them out with anything else they need – as long as it doesn’t take away from your preferred job duties in any way!

4. Make Connections with Coworkers

If possible, continue to work on connecting with coworkers. Try to be an active participant in your office’s holiday parties or summer barbecues: not only will you make new friends and strengthen existing bonds, but you’ll also learn more about everyone on your team, which makes it easier for you to work together. In the meantime, consider asking them for coffee to get better acquainted – and eventually offer them a position in your network of professional contacts.

5. Learn How to Say No More Often…

…but only when the answer is “no. Why?” Everyone has the right to say “no,” but it’s important to use that right for the right reasons: only if you’re honestly unable to perform or take on that additional responsibility. Also, always let your manager know you’re doing this, so they can clearly see when they are asking you to do too much.

6. Work On Your Negativity

Though this may sound like a good idea, some people find it hard to turn their frown upside down – no matter how many morning affirmations they do! But there is a way around this: realize that not everyone will be happy with your choice of action – but then calmly and rationally explain your reasoning behind taking on the task or even quitting altogether.

7. Get Really Good at “Having” It All

There will be some days where you’re just sort of there: working on things that are important to your company but aren’t really your responsibility, or even helping others without getting any recognition for it. The solution to this is to work on managing your own time and keeping yourself organized so that you can have a better handle on what tasks are (or aren’t) your own.

8. Learn How to Ask the Right Questions

Complimenting someone in the wrong way – especially when they may not be doing anything at all – can easily leave them feeling frustrated and confused: which can often lead to a potential online “witch hunt”. “ So what can you do instead? Ask questions! This is a great way to get a better idea of your manager’s workload or responsibilities, and to show them you’re interested in learning more about their job. If they can’t answer your questions by the end of the day, at least you know they’re busy – so maybe take it as a sign that you should ask for help another time.

9. Take Time for Yourself

This kind of goes hand in hand with number 8: because whether or not we like it, most people will find it difficult to work as hard without getting tired at some point. So make sure to give yourself some extra downtime: whether that’s taking a work break, or even just getting some fresh air.

Conclusion:

Getting a promotion may seem like a lot of work, but once you’ve asked for one – or even if you haven’t – there are some really easy, natural ways to make your boss want to promote you! If you’re feeling stuck in your current position and think that a promotion is the only way out, consider taking some of these job hacks into consideration.
