A Guide To MARKETING At Any Age

If you’re in the advertising industry, understanding and adapting to the marketing demographic is one of your main responsibilities. And there’s never been a more exciting time to be responsible for this task: the marketing landscape is constantly evolving, giving birth to new terms and trends all the time. www.michaellewismarketingsuite

Luckily for you, we’ve got your back! In today’s blog post we’ll cover how you can effectively market at any age by examining some of today’s hottest marketing demographics!

1. The Boomer

Easily identified by their graying hair, active lifestyle, and rugged good looks, the Boomer is one of the oldest and most well-established marketing demographics still kicking around. At this stage of life, they’re typically settled into a role that they’ve worked towards since they were young – and they’re not afraid to show it.

2. Millennials

On the opposite end of the spectrum are recent graduates and college students: Millennials! These little guys are usually found sleeping in their parents’ basements or spending their parents’ money like it’s going out of style. When studying Millennials for marketing purposes, look for signs that tell you if this demographic is interested in your product or not. Always ask for their opinion about your product, product marketing, and your advertisements, and if they give you a positive response it’s a good sign!

Check out this infographic from the American Marketing Association to see who we’re talking about:

3. Gen Xers

Generation X is all grown up and they’re going places – they’ve got an established job and don’t see themselves switching anytime soon. So what types of products are in demand right now? Look at the top 10 search results, as well as the top tiers in the purchase funnel – these are the products that Gen Xers will be browsing for more information on.

Look at them all!

4. The Baby Boomer

Who’s the oldest marketer demographic out there? With their grandchildren, they’re definitely on this list. These are the best marketers out there, because they’ve been around for a while and have tons of experience to back it up! They’re also pretty awesome, so we can’t not include them!

5. Generation Z

Brought to you by Generation Z is the only marketing demographic that you cannot define with a single word! No one really knows what it is yet; they’re still in the “first stages” of becoming an on-the-job marketer. But they’re still very important to keep an eye on, because when they get older and graduate from schools, they’re going to be the biggest demographic of all!

6. The Millenials

Millennials are the second oldest demographic on our list. They’re still new to the marketing industry but they’re making waves, and they’re definitely not going anywhere any time soon! They’re one of the most significant demographics out there – though they may not seem like it at first glance, as you’ll see later on in our full infographic. They’ll be an ever-present marketing demographic for a good while yet!

7. The Millenials (Again)

The Millenials are the second oldest marketing demographic. They’re making waves in their industries, and they’re one of the most exciting, but also confusing demographics to date. Find out more about what these young entrepreneurs are looking for in their product and market research! We know this one is redundant, but sometimes things have to repeat themselves so that we can clearly identify a demographic’s influence. This is one of them! These folks will continue to grow in numbers and are definitely a force to be reckoned with.

8. The Parents of Millennials

This is a family office – one that’s entirely made up of parents and grandparents (and potentially grandparents with their own children’s children and so on) who love to shop, but can’t quite afford it! They’re all your target market: they understand the importance of saving money (don’t worry, they’ll still be able to afford those gadgets you’re selling them!).

They’ve got the industry knowledge on the down-low, so it’s important for you to learn from them.

9. The Seniors of Millennials

This demographic is similar to the Parents of Millenials, in that they’re all a part of a family office – which means they’re all under one roof and living together! They’ll all stay there for their entire lives, so it’s important for you to learn what they like, what they dislike, and how they want to be marketed to.

10. The Gen Zs

When the kids grow up and graduate from school, the Gen Zs will be the next big marketing demographic on our list. There’s some debate over how to classify the age of this demographic, but we’ve settled on including them in the 25-35 year old range – what kind of products are best marketed to this age range?

Conclusion:

In this post we’ve covered some of the most important marketing demographics to keep an eye on in the future, and outlined different features that each of them possess. These features can help you pinpoint how to make your product stand out from the crowd and simplify the task of marketing it effectively. Thanks for reading, and I hope you found this blog post helpful!
