Charlie Cox, who plays the title role in Marvel’s Daredevil series on Netflix, has been asked to reprise the role of Daredevil for a guest appearance on an upcoming episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it appears!
The follow-up episode will be titled “Daredevil: Born Again” and is set to air as part of Marvel’s “Season Finale” event which will conclude with The Defenders miniseries that year (Marvel’s Secret Wars will happen later). The episode is written by Patrick Melton and Daniel J. Edmondson.
The important development for this story is that Marvel has made the decision to include Daredevil in their Agent Carter series, so it appears we’re looking at a two-show arc with Daredevil appearing in both shows.
A flashback will show Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) and Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox, who played the title role in Marvel’s Daredevil series on Netflix) creating the vigilante identity Daredevil before Fisk is sent to prison. There he meets Sister Maggie (Sandrine Holt), a nun with a “demonic” tattoo, as well as Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), a lawyer for Fisk. Fisk’s current cellmate is “Mr. Knight,” who appears to be Mephistopheles (Freema Agyeman). When Fisk escapes prison and takes over the city’s underworld, he has a meeting with Mr. Garrison (Elden Henson) and Sister Maggie, who reveal that they are from the true secret society of “The Hand.” Maggie then asks if Fisk would help her destroy Daredevil for the greater good of The Hand.
Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) brings Daredevil to S.H.I.E.L.D., and he reveals his identity to her, as well as his plan to get close to Fisk and protect anyone who could be hurt by him and The Hand. Fisk then tests Matt’s determination by having Sister Maggie killed, but he hesitates in killing him when the police arrive, allowing the NYPD brass to force a shootout that ends with Matt getting hit with a police round in the head (though he survives).
This is huge for Daredevil fans since it’s going to be a big deal to see the hero on Agent Carter and then again as a part of The Defenders miniseries. The “Daredevil: Born Again” episode will also feature an appearance from The Punisher, who will have another guest arc this season.
It’s unlikely that Daredevil would return to the MCU in time for the events of Secret Wars (which happens in 2018), but this is definitely a big step toward that happening.
The “Daredevil: Born Again” episode will air as a two-show arc, with the first part being part of Marvel’s “Season Finale,” which will run in March. “Daredevil: Born Again” Will Release in the spring of 2024.
We’re hoping Daredevil will stick to the original show’s tight focus on the gritty world of organized crime in Hell’s Kitchen. The one thing we’ll be rooting for is that Netflix doesn’t wait six months between releasing seasons. Title:
When Marvel Television decided to pull the trigger on re-inventing Daredevil for Netflix and allow the show to exist in the same universe as a multitude of other shows, it seemed like all of their marketing efforts were geared toward this.
For Daredevil fans who have been waiting for this character to be included in the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is a major development. For those who aren’t fans of the character, this is likely to feel like a retread of his origin story from the first season.
