Baduk is an ancient Chinese strategy game, which was widely played by three-player teams. In the game, players want to eliminate stone in the opponent’s home board, as well as take liberties on their own board. It has been included in every single world championship of Go since 1972 and is widely enjoyed by millions of people globally. In cash Badugi (also known as low Badugi), players are given 5 points for each stone captured and 10 points when the game ends. Compared with playing traditional Baduk games in Korea or China, it’s a lot easier to play.
The rules of cash Badugi are very similar to that of the traditional Baduk game. It is played by four players, two on a team, who take turns playing black and white stones. You must play a stone in your own territory or capture an opponent’s stone to win the game. If there is only one player left with stones on the board, they automatically win the game. The black-and-white stones are placed in different areas depending on whether it’s your turn to play as black or white.
Traditional private baduk is a game of strategy. You can’t just play for the sake of winning, because you have to consider your adversary’s move and read their mind. In contrast, the cash version is much simpler and more like an arcade game. You will only have to consider which area of the board it is best for you to place your stones. If you do so naturally and without too much thinking, baduk fans would call it a “good play,” but if you’re not confident with making good plays, it would be called a “horrible play.”
You can win a cash Baduk by capturing an opponent’s stone or playing a stone in your own territory. When you capture a stone, you will be given 5 point, and if you get all of your opponents’ stones to be captured, then you’ll win 10 points. If you get all of your opponents’ stones to be captured but there are still some of your own stones on the board that haven’t been captured yet, the game will go into overtime and it will result in a draw.
The best players in cash Baduk are those who can make the most interesting and efficient plays, which will make their opponents feel pressured. A player who can use his or her intuition to anticipate his or her adversary’s move will be able to win games easily.
