Jenna Ortega is the formal squeal queen of Generation Z, and her fresh Netflix series, Wednesday, is more than sufficient confirmation. Her start by taking on the famous Addams Family character sparked a TikTok frenzy as well as critical acclaim. Wednesday finds her psychic powers in season first of the Netflix hit, which leads to her trying to prevent a murder spree that had already terrorized the city covering her school, Nevermore Academy. As she investigates a supernatural mystery involving her parents, Gomez and Morticia Addams, 25 years ago, she makes friends — and enemies.
Wednesday’s first season immersed viewers in the universe of Wednesday Addams while she was a student at Nevermore Academy. She uncovers her psychic powers, attempting to solve a terrifying mystery encompassing her parents, and negotiates relationships with sirens, werewolves, and vampires at her new high school.
At the finish of the season, she learns that Tyler, her coffee shop crush and the Sheriff’s son, is the Hyde demon who committed heinous killings at Nevermore. She also discovered that the school’s botany professor, Marilyn Thornhill, is absolutely Laurel Gates, who was thought to have died years before. She was the Hyde expert who controlled Tyler and hypnotized him into his horrendous form, and she sought vengeance on the Outcasts who murdered her family. Wednesday and her adversary, Bianca, eventually defeat Laurel and her evil cohorts.
We were all thankful for the Addams family because the initial season of Wednesday premiered just in time for Thanksgiving. However, there has been no word from Netflix regarding the renewal of season 2. Jenna Ortega, the series’ leading lady, publicly acknowledged to NME that she has “no idea” about the franchise’s future.
But, as co-creator Alfred Gough told Empire, “[Screenwriter] Miles [Millar] and I are going to talk about it. There’s definitely more to discover in the Addams family’s world.”
Gough and Miller taunted in a November 2022 interview with Variety that they’ve planned three or four episodes of the story arc in the expectation that it will be restored. “For us, it is really thinking about the future, and when we sit down to produce a show, it’s looking at numerous years, ideally. That had never been expected, but it’s the belief that the show will be effective,” Millar stated to the publication, adding that they have a “fairly obvious plane of what [they] want to accomplish in upcoming seasons.”
Fred Armisen, who plays Uncle Fester in the Netflix series, has also expressed interest in a second season. “I thought that was good writing to keep people wanting more,” he said of the season 1 series finale in an interview with E! Media. “I believe that is difficult. Even as something assumed to proceed, they did an excellent job of keeping it interesting.” Gwendoline Christie, who plays Larissa Weems, agreed with Armisen.
