Ice skating is a very commonly known activity, especially for children. It is a great way to get exercise and have fun outside of the educational experience that school provides. For many people, ice skating can seem like a daunting task. They may not be sure how to do it or even feel like they’ll fall. There is nothing wrong with feeling this way! The best idea you can have is to first find a location that offers the activity you want your kids to learn and feel comfortable with their surroundings before attempting to teach them yourself at home. If you are new to the area or looking for something different, here are seven ways you can introduce ice skating in oxford ms:

1. The junior ice skating rink.

Oxford has a few different ice skating rinks for your kids to try. The Oxford Ice Arena is the largest of these rinks and is perfect for beginner skaters. The facility boasts an indoor ice skating rink with automatic lighting, as well as a stage for musical events and movie nights. Children can also take part in other activities such as hockey and inline skating during the summer months. 

All Oxford Ice Arena memberships include up to two hours of use on any day of the week during their two-month membership period, which typically begins in late December or early January once it has reached a high enough level of membership. This membership also allows you to bring one guest per visit, who must sign a waiver.

2. Ice skating lessons for kids.

The Oxford Ice Arena offers ice skating lessons for children, teens, and adults alike. The average cost of three private lessons is $72 per week or $25 per session, which takes place from June through August. Four private lessons are $120 per week or $40 per session, and five private sessions are $150 per week or $50 a session. 

Ice skating lessons are available on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.. Oxford Ice Arena also offers ice skating lessons for toddlers, ages 4-12, as well as free ice skating for all ages during the first hour of each time slot each day except for Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, Easter Sunday, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day from 10 a.m.-12 p.m..

3 . Outdoor skating .

For a more casual and relaxed setting, there are several outdoor skating rinks in the Oxford area. These outdoor rinks tend to be much smaller, but are open from December-February and typically located near municipal buildings such as the library or city hall. The most popular of these is located on South Lamar Boulevard near Hwy 6 at the square in Oxford. 

Another popular outdoor skating location is Municipal Park, which also offers holiday events throughout the season such as a Winter Wonderland with Christmas trees and decorations and Santa Claus visiting every night except Christmas Eve.

4. Ice skating at The Mall at Turtle Creek .

This popular Oxford ice skating location is located at the Mall at Turtle Creek. With 3,000 feet of ice, the rink is open from December to March and has been featured in various television shows such as America’s Funniest Home Videos and many feature segments for Children’s Hospital. The rinks used to be opened year-round but closed in 2010 because of maintenance costs. During spring break week, you can also go sledding down the hill that surrounds the rink.

5 . The Lafayette Ice Center .

This smaller indoor rink in Lafayette offers a variety of different activities including ice hockey and more than 50 other special events throughout the year like family movie night on Saturday nights and sports games throughout the season. One of the most popular activities at this rink is “skating around a pole” where individuals sit on a sled attached to the end of a long pole and slide down the ice while they ride. The Lafayette Ice Center also offers beginner lessons and group lessons during the year, but does not offer scheduled group ice skating lessons.

6 . Ice skating at mall locations .

The Mall at Turtle Creek has two indoor rinks that are open year round as well as a number of outdoor rinks that are open from December-February. Isla Blanca Square has outdoor skating for kids and an outdoor stage for musical events. Oxford Mall offers an outdoor rink open on most weekends from March to November, with musical events throughout the season.

7 . Ice skating at a park or library.

Some people are not comfortable with the idea of leaving their child alone while they go ice skating and would like to find another way to get the activity inside. The Oxford Public Library has ice skating in its children’s area, and there are numerous parks in Oxford that also have multiple rinks for kids and adults alike. If you are strapped for time, but still want to get your kids outside and active, books can teach them more about outdoor activities than movies or videos could ever teach them!
