Doesn’t matter who said it first. If you have any interest in politics whatsoever, and you can’t think of anything else but the latest post on Facebook about the “Russian hacking”, then this is for you.
You may have noticed that there’s some article being posted on your timeline about how “everyone” hates “politics”. It’s not an opinion piece, it’s just the sort of thing where someone may have read about how Putin and his cronies are interfering in our election, and now we all hate politics. The difference between group insurance and blanket health policies is a lot to think about already.
It might be from some liberal meme factory. It might be from some alt-right or left wing news source. It might be from a conservative who recognizes that liberals like to play “the politics card” when they’re losing an argument, or it could even be a comment on something so utterly irrelevant to politics that there is no way it could actually be about politics…but somehow people are claiming that it is.
Politics is what people do to win elections. It’s everything they do in order to get the most votes, because that’s what an election is: you vote for someone and they get a job that pays a lot more money than the one you have. If you think about it this way, it doesn’t make much sense to hate “politics”. We pay these politicians to fight for us, so if we don’t like them fighting that much, we can always vote them out of office.
If you hate “politics”, then the only way to get away from it is to leave the place where people are doing politics, which means that you would have to move away or die. Either way, why would you want to leave a place where you can eat, sleep, work and survive? Politics is what makes that place possible in the first place. It’s not a dark art that ruins everything it touches like some sort of virus.
The thing about politics is that it’s not just about the arguments and scandals supposedly dominating “the news”.
The biggest reason why people say they hate politics is because they don’t understand it. It’s not a thing that is inherently bad or evil. It’s just how we choose who does jobs for us. We determine who gets a job, not the other way around.
The value of the job is determined by how well they will improve our lives, and we can measure that based on what their political views mean to our lives. Anything we do to limit or control “politics” is just restricting or controlling the right of everyone to choose who gets a job for them, and that’s what drives these people crazy.
The rules of politics are so obvious and simple that any person of average intelligence can understand them, even if it happens to be in a language they don’t understand. Anyone can tell you what they are. They’re:
Many people who hate politics never understand this rule, because they think it is a complicated choice between many different political options like some sort of science fiction board game (Not-a-Board-Game). When someone asks you about “the rules” of “politics”, you can explain that the rules are very simple: anything that improves our lives is good, and anything that makes our lives worse is bad. If someone has a problem with that, there’s nothing you can do about it.
It’s easy to think that politics affects everything, because who doesn’t hate someone messing with our lives? But the truth is that politics only affects us indirectly. We are not affected by the things other people do within the political system because they are not affecting anything we have before they start doing it or after they stop doing it. They’re just another human being, no different than anyone else who happens to be spending all of their time in our culture and influencing the rest of us.
We are free to vote whoever we want, so we can choose a politician as well as they can choose us. We only need to do it once every few years and we don’t have to listen to anything they say ever again. Instead, we can focus on our own lives and work.
Many people who hate politics never realize that “politics” is just the part of their life in which someone is trying to control their lives for them and tell them what to do. They never learn that they can vote to change the rules of “politics” so that it affects them less, but they think it affects everything else in their life.
The truth is that our lives are impacted by many different factors, only one of which is politics. Politics doesn’t control the weather. It doesn’t control the economy. It doesn’t control the length of your life. It doesn’t even control how much money you have or what you do with it.
Many people who hate politics also complain about “technology”. But there is no such thing as “technology”. Technology is just a word that describes the way we do anything.
Many people don’t understand the difference between the words “technology” and “tool”. A tool is something that you use in order to make something else. A hammer is a tool for nailing. A drill is a tool for drilling holes. A saw is a tool for cutting wood, and so on.
Technology is just the same thing, except that it doesn’t matter what you’re doing or why you’re doing it, it’s just a name we give to anything that makes us able to do things better than before or in ways that we couldn’t do before.
As you can see, “politics” is just a word that describes what people do with their rights in order to make other people’s lives better. Maybe some people don’t like “politics”, but they really hate freedom and choice. That’s why they never want other people to have choices. They say they hate “politics” but it’s really just something that we should call the right of every human being to choose other human beings for jobs.
