While crime rates in this county are still pretty low, it is still a struggle to protect our homes and people. From our own experience, we know that getting the right amount of manpower to guard your home against criminals is sometimes difficult. It is very difficult to get enough police officers to be able to safely protect your home and your family. This year’s sheriff’s race will show whether the population feels safe enough to elect a new sheriff, and the results may surprise us.

Sheriff Tony Guglielmino is a Democrat and was elected in November 2010. He got more votes than any Republican for sheriff in our history. He is also good friends with former Florida Governor Charlie Crist, so we are hoping that will help him a little.

What a relief. I was afraid that if we had a Republican candidate, he would have stolen this election. That didn’t happen. I’m glad we elected someone who has been active in the community and is friendly with the people of thurston county. We need more of that.

Guglielmino has said he wants to get rid of some of the old laws and ordinances that have been in place for decades. He says he wants to make sure that the people of thurston county feel safe and protected.
