I’m a big fan of how the city is growing up and becoming more inclusive. I like that the city is starting to embrace the concept of a “downtown,” which is a term that has been used by many urban planners and writers. The term “downtown” is a perfect description for what I am hoping to achieve with this website. One of the major factors in the growth of the downtown is the development of the waterfront.

There are already a handful of websites that offer a glimpse into the history of the city of Newport News and the history of the downtown area. Each of these sites features a list of the many businesses and structures that made up the downtown area. These are all great resources to get a sense of the history, but I think the best way to appreciate what is now available to see is from a visitor’s standpoint.
