Marvel Studios and Disney+ have announced the new series, Spider-Man: Freshman Year, which will be released exclusively with Marvel’s streaming service, Disney+. The popular superhero who has been a part of the Avengers onscreen is going to try to merge his high school life with his superhero adventures in this animated TV show.
Set for release in 2024, Spider-Man: Freshman Year features Peter Parker during high school. As he navigates through his senior year as well as homecoming and dealing with Aunt May’s health crisis all while avoiding being discovered by Tony Stark or Jameson.
The series’ plot revolves around Peter Parker’s freshman year at Midtown High School. He’s still a teenager, dealing with school work and finding ways to get over his feelings for Gwen Stacey, who is now in a relationship with another guy. At the same time, he is also struggling with his superhero work as Spider-Man.
The series premiered on May 1, 2024, and will continue for 40 episodes. It will air on Disney+ as well as several other networks. The entire run of “Spider-Man: Freshman Year” is expected to be released by August 2025.
The series follows the events of “Spider-Man: Far From Home”. This will be the first time we will get a look at Peter Parker in high school. It’s still unknown at this point how exactly this series fits into the MCU. This will be for Marvel Studios and Disney+ to answer soon enough though.
The theme song for “Spider-Man: Freshman Year”, which was written by Daniel Pemberton, was performed by Imagine Dragons. The song is called “So Close”.
It’s been a while since the last Spider-Man film, but fans are still super excited to learn more about Peter Parker. The web-slinger is coming back in an interesting series that will show us more of his daily struggles during his high school days. It doesn’t look like that Spider-Man will be part of the MCU just yet, but we’re hoping that changes at some point down the road. The show will likely bring in many of the stars from Homecoming and Far From Home, so it should be a good way to find out what happened since those films. This series is also expected to give us some interesting background into how Parker became Spider-Man. There are going to be quite a few familiar faces coming back as well, so it should be fun to see them interact with Peter Parker in his high school life.
Although there are no official ratings just yet, the show is likely to be rated TV-PG. This should give parents some assurance that this series is fine for kids to watch, but it’s not too intense for them the same way the MCU series are.
Even though we have no idea when Peter Parker will be returning to live-action, Marvel Studios are making a Spider-Man movie for sure (and also releasing an animated series).
