Netflix’s workplace sitcom, Blockbuster, left plenty of questions unanswered, making it unclear whether it will be renewed for season 2. casting Randall Park as Timmy and Melissa Fumero as Eliza, and made by Vanessa Ramos, Blockbuster follows the journeys of the employees working in the last abide franchise branch of Blockbuster Video on the planet. The series follows Timmy (Park), a part-time employee at Blockbuster Video, who is fresh out of film school and hoping to break into the industry. It also follows Timmy’s best friend Eliza (Fumero), a social media manager for a video game company.

The show’s premiere episode follows Timmy as he’s starting his new job at the Blockbuster store. The premiere episode also explores the dynamics between Timmy, Eliza and Carlos, who has yet to make a personal connection with anyone at the Blockbuster store.
Another notable character is Rene, an employee from Blockbuster Video’s rival company who has been fired thanks to a Change.org petition that calls for Rene to be fired. It is this Change.org campaign that leads to Timmy starting work at Blockbuster video in season 2 of BLOCKBUSTER.
The most striking thing about season one’s finale is that it left plenty of questions unanswered. For one, the final scene of the episode shows Timmy and Eliza embracing, with a voiceover from Timmy who narrates that “if there’s an option between destiny and starvation, I’ll take destiny.”
That voiceover was taken by many fans as a reference to Timmy and Eliza going on a date. But where did the couple go during their date? What happened between the two of them when they spent so much time together alone? The show’s finale left viewers uncertain, with many wondering if season 2 will address these questions.
The show’s strong performance in its premiere week led Netflix to renew it for a second season. Netflix has yet to officially announce the new season, but fans of the series are hoping to see an end date next year. A lot of people don’t watch the show through Netflix, but this doesn’t surprise many of those who have been following it for a while. Blockbuster season 1 ranked as a top-10 comedy on the platform. But that isn’t enough to make the show profitable because Netflix is only paying $100 000/episode to produce both seasons of Blockbuster.
This seems like a poor deal for Netflix and it will be interesting to see if anything changes in the future.
