A wisn.com article titled “The Best Ways to Increase Your Self-Awareness” quotes an “experience facilitator” from a company called M.A.S.S. (Massage at A Safe Space) as saying “To increase self-awareness, you need to start with yourself. What are you thinking right now?” It is an incredibly insightful article and I highly recommend that you read it.
Our goal is to see how it feels to change your attitude and how you feel about yourself before you start working on your own style of self-aware self-improvement. As I said in the Introduction, the main goal of M.A.S.S. is to increase your self-awareness and get you to take a step back and ask yourself a question. This is the way to go about it.
I’m going to be a bit more explicit, because I don’t want to come across as a wimp. I firmly believe that there is no such thing as a “good” self. In my experience, there is no such thing as a “bad” self. We all have our own unique personalities that define us very differently. So you might have an over-all positive attitude to life that is completely disconnected from your core self.
We all have our own idiosyncratic self-awareness. And that’s why you may find yourself feeling a little bit better. Self-awareness is the ability to recognize that you are not yourself. Whether you are a great cook or a terrible waiter, you are still you. You don’t have to be a doctor or a lawyer to be you.
A common problem with over-arousal in our culture is a tendency to feel better when we feel worse. Whether it’s from stress, anxiety, or depression, the thing is we all tend to self-diagnose our selves and then decide that we’re suffering from something. By the same token, we tend to ignore our own unique personality quirks.
The thing I find so funny about the new trailer is that the narrator says he started feeling like an out-of-shape drunk in high school and that all he wanted to do was go home. It’s not a joke though, because I’m not a drunk. In fact, I’m incredibly well read. I don’t have the same obsession with alcohol that you do.
Yeah, you do. You just don’t get a lot of it because you rarely drink. In fact, you probably have more reading to do than you realize. As such, you tend to get to the point where you don’t feel like you have any idea where to start. So you just go nuts and do something. Then you wait and wait and wait.
You know what? It’s hard to not drink. There’s definitely a lot you can do with alcohol. You can get very drunk, or very happy, or you can lose yourself in the moment and just feel the need to get drunk. But the important things don’t require the alcohol. That’s where you find yourself.
You may think your actions are pretty stupid, but you can do worse. It’s a little harder for you to realize that if you’re trying to get drunk, you can get drunk again. It’s just another act of willpower. If you’re a fool you can just get drunk. It’s not worth the price of something to do.
It also doesn’t matter how much you drink, or how you eat, or how you exercise, or how you cook or cook, its not worth the cost.
