“Yellowstone 1923” is an upcoming American drama series. Paramount+ has just debuted its latest Western series, 1923, a prequel and sequel to 1883. Director John Dahl stars in the series and it is set to premiere on December 18th, 2022. ordered a new chapter of the Dutton family’s history in addition to picking up 1883 for further episodes. Yellowstone is set in Wyoming two years after the devastating volcano eruption that killed most of the northwestern United States and followed Jay Dutton (played by Cole Hauser) as he fights to keep his farm alive during a brutal winter.
The series will not only explore what life looks like in 1923 but also focus on Jay’s family’s ranching business and the lengths they go to preserve their legacy. Paramount+ has already committed to ten episodes — with production due to start later this year.
The series will be based on a concept by Oscar winner Richard D. Zanuck, who died in 2016. Eric Roth wrote the script with Black Bear Pictures’ Taylor Sheridan, who wrote “Hell or High Water” and the Netflix series “Godless.” Paramount Network’s head of development Nahnatchka Khan and Michael Rosenberg will exec produce along with Tom Lesinski and Jenna Santoianni from the Paramount Players division.
The series is the first project from a scripted television production JV between Paramount Network and Black Bear.
“Yellowstone” is the latest scripted series to land at Paramount Network following “Waco” and “American Woman.”
The drama is produced by Marney Hochman, John Linson, and showrunner Taylor Sheridan.
Production companies are Black Bear Pictures and The Weinstein Company (Paramount Network).
Yellowstone will premiere on December 18th, 2022.
Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford were cast to star in the series. In June, the title was rebooted to 1923 In September, Sebastian Roché was added to the cast.
Ben Richardson serves as a director in the series.
