The organization values student-driven learning, so if you have a passion for tech and want to see it used to impact lives on a grand scale, TEACH MINT might be just the place for you.

Founded by two MIT students in 2003, TEACHMINT has grown into an organization that’s made more than 1,000 technology projects across more than 70 countries around the world (and counting). In addition to teaching technology skills to students from rural communities around India and East Africa, TEACH MINT also teaches teachers how to incorporate technology into their lessons.

Seven Things About TEACH MINT You Have To Experience It Yourself :

1. TEACHMINT’s Technology Drives Learning

TEACH MINT focuses on using technology to help students learn because it believes that technology is a critical tool for students from developing countries. According to TEACHMINT, the organization’s mission “is to create equal opportunities in education by enabling children and youth in under-served communities throughout the world to learn and succeed using technology.”

If you’re interested in learning more about the way technology can help students across the world, become a part of TEACH MINT. The organization’s executive director, Rishi Bhargava, says that TEACHMINT “strives to use technology to empower people, and to provide impact in ways that are rare in the nonprofit world.”

2. MIT’s Creativity Is Out of This World

TEACHMINT is the brainchild of current students from MIT’s Media Lab. The Media Lab students were able to turn their creativity into a startup because the school offers an entrepreneurship class through an MIT Extension course.

The entrepreneurship class helped them to see how the world is full of problems, and [it] showed them what it really takes for a small team to build something that can accomplish great things. It all starts with a vision, and the students of LAUNCH did this by designing something they called TechMint.”

3. Teaching Technology to Teachers

TEACHMINT trains teachers all over the world how to use tech in their classrooms, and it finds that teaching technology to teachers is especially effective for developing countries. The organization says that “the more times a teacher uses technology in class, the more likely that student will go on to be literate in the language and culture of society.” The organization offers teacher training programs so that teachers can learn how to integrate tech into their lessons.

4. Students Learn How To Code

Because TEACH MINT teaches students about tech as well as how to integrate it into their lives, it’s up to the students themselves to learn how to code. The company has developed a set of curricula and provides software so that students can learn how code.

5. Donations Are Generous

TEACH MINT is a very generous nonprofit, and it always gives back to the communities in which it teaches. The organization says it works with over 100 schools in India and East Africa on a daily basis, and it gives all of the donations its students make to those same schools. According to Bhargava, “Giving back is essential for us. We believe that students learn best from using technology in the community; we make sure these students are helping out in their local communities.”

6. Students Are Passionate about Teaching Others

Students at TEACH MINT learn that they have no limits when they join their program. The organization says that “students learn that they can make a difference in their communities, and they begin to realize how they can use technology to do this.” Because the students who join TEACH MINT are so passionate about teaching others how to use technology, they’re able to come up with all sorts of creative ways to teach.

7. It’s Just Getting Started

TEACH MINT is still an organization in its early stages and has a lot of growing left to do. The company plans to continue expanding its work throughout India and East Africa. It has also made very big strides in the United States with its “TechStarter” program, which helps at-risk youth develop tech skills through tutoring and mentoring programs.
