“Everyone has a secret. Sometimes it’s nothing more than something you do when you think no one is looking, but other times it’s the most important thing in the world. For Miles Morales, the secret is that he sees everyone as a superhero.”
The film will start with Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) telling a story of how he first got his powers. He was attacked by a mugger and was saved by Spider-Man, only to be hit by a truck moments later during the same encounter. When Miles wakes up days later, he finds himself with spider-like abilities. His first act is to change his name to Spider-Man and defeat the mugger who attacked him because that would make Peter Parker (Jason Schwartzman) proud of him.
The following morning, he receives an email from a comic book character named Spider-Man. At school, he notices that two girls are looking at his backpack and he hides a comic book inside it. During lunch, Spidey tries to ask out one of the girls who caught the mini-comic strip and she rejects him.
After school, Miles is confronted by his uncle Aaron Davis (Brian Tyree Henry), who wants Miles to stop being Spider-Man and join him in crime as part of The Prowler (a villain in the comics). They argue while they fight with fists which causes Miles to lose control of his powers.
