The Exorcist reboot is an upcoming American natural horror film directed by David Gordon Green, with a screenplay he co-wrote with Peter Sattler, and a story he co-authored with Scott Teems, and Danny McBride. The film is intended to be a part of the franchise based on the 1971 novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty and will serve as a direct season to William Friedkin’s 1973 film adaptation.
A few months ago we learned that Warner Bros had given David Gordon Green permission to begin production of this film. While there are not many details released at this point we know it will follow up after the events from 1973’s The Exorcist Film.

What’s About The Plotting Of “The Exorcist Reboot”?
“There have been talks about what role Ellen Burstyn will play in the new movie. It’s unclear at this point whether Ellen will return to give the mother versus daughter conflict again in the film, or if this is more of a direct sequel where Chris MacNeil will be narrating from beyond the grave. Some think she may have a cameo appearance. But we know that things have changed after 1973 so it will be interesting to see how they handle this.
“According to Variety, William Friedkin has given his efforts to this film and wrote a letter where he explains his ardor for a new Exorcist film. However, there is a caveat: Warner Bros. must give him executive producer credits on the new Exorcist Film.”
What’s Interesting About “The Exorcist Reboot”?
The film will be produced by Morgan Creek Productions, the company that holds the rights to Friedkin’s Exorcist films. This new movie will not take on any tale of the characters featured in The Exorcist III, which was reported to be the first sequel that was scrapped before it was filmed.
This is not the first time they attempted to reboot this franchise, in fact, there were two other attempts prior to this one. Both involved using the character of Legion, a demonic entity from the novel, which is actually an amalgam of hundreds of demonic entities referred to as “the Gemini”.
