When I was a child, my mom always told me that there are certain things in life that you can do or watch on TV but they just aren’t really worth it. One of those things is watching a movie — she said it wasn’t worth the time and money. I am really grateful to her for that because I don’t know if I would have eventually tried and loved watching movies, or at least not as much as I do today.
I know, it might come across as a little odd that someone who has seen and/or is interested in watching anime/movies can say this but hear me out on this.
Movies showtime mainplace aren’t all awesome experiences that everyone should see. They’re just one of those things you can enjoy on a rainy afternoon when there’s nothing else to distract you from the real world — though be careful with that last part because movies are capable of distracting you from the real world very well in the first place.
10 reasons why movies can be overrated are:
1. What’s on the screen is just an illusion.
One of the most common things you hear about movies, even if you’re not interested in them, is that they’re so realistic and awesome and nothing can compare to that. But the thing is when a movie looks realistic, it doesn’t necessarily mean everything in that movie has to be realistic too. In fact, just being able to portray real life in a way where people can relate is already something very hard to do for a movie so saying that it’s realistic because it looks like one is… well, confusing.
2. People like to criticize movies that are based on books.
I think it’s one of the biggest downfalls of people watching movies. I don’t think they realize that they’re actually just watching a movie based on a book or comic. Now, many of the reasons why we read or watch comics and/or watch TV shows are because we want to see something and that’s where you can draw the line between what makes something “good” and “bad”. If you’re someone who just reads comic books for fun then it’s not weird at all for you to prefer the adaptation to the original when there’s more action, action, and more action.
But when you’re watching a movie adaption, you have to have all this preconceived notion of what the movie will be and if it’s not what you wanted it to be then there’s no way you can enjoy the experience.
3. Too many movies with the same content gets boring.
Again, one of the most common things people say about movies is that they just get so predictable too fast. You know what else gets predictable? People! So why not just adapt some stuff from other people’s comics or TV shows instead? There are plenty of action shows and books that have been made into movies so why not watch them instead?
One way to overcome boredom in terms of consuming the same type of movie content is to explore movies form other countries. There are plenty of artists in different parts of the world. Right at the top of your head, you have a thriving Korean movie industry. You also have Bollywood (from India) that produces some of the most entertaining cinematic pieces ever. You can download all these movies and use a media player to catch them. To get your hands on movies, please click here- proxy-rarbg.org.
4. Movies are just to pass the time and nothing more.
This is something I realized only recently, mainly because I’m more of a manga/light novel person. Reading stories on a screen feels just as good as reading them on a paper — everything is exactly how I want them to be in the first place. But movies? They’re very much different from what’s on the book or comic page. You can’t see what’s going on in their head, you can’t see their emotional expressions, and you can barely hear some of them if there’s sound effects or music playing in the background.
5. The main character in most movies doesn’t really have flaws.
When I say this, what I mean is that they’re not the type of characters who have any problems, who are scared of facing reality, or who just can’t handle something. In fact, it’s the opposite. If a movie is even remotely interesting at all, you can almost guarantee that the main character will be someone who can do everything in their power to make sure everything turns out okay even if that means destroying a whole city.
6. Not everyone has the same taste in movies.
This one really depends on the person. It’s not weird for someone to like comedy movies and it’s not weird for someone to like action movies (and I’m not sure why people consider a movie with a lot of action as being “bad” but I guess that’s just my opinion). But some people prefer romantic comedies and others prefer dramas, some prefer sci-fi and some prefer fantasy, and there are even people who just want to watch a movie based on real life events instead.
7. When you see all these great reviews you can’t help but think that they just got paid off by the studio or something.
I’ll admit it, I used to be one of those people who just saw all these great reviews but I don’t anymore. It’s not that all the films have bad reviews either because there are plenty of films with bad reviews but why does every movie have to be awesome?
8. In fact, you can never find a good movie if you’re looking for one.
This might sound stupid and naive but if you google “best movies” or “great movies” or anything like that then all you’ll get is pages upon pages of the same generic stuff floating around. So I think it’s better to just watch some other stuff and if you really want to watch a movie then just pick whatever looks like something you might actually enjoy.
9. The ending of most movies suck.
Most of the time the ending will be so predictable even when you haven’t seen that kind of movie or book before that it’s not even funny anymore. You can have a great time watching a movie until the end when everyone is like “wait, what?” and then you end up thinking “crap, I wanted more”. But what can you do?
10. Movies are pretty much designed to make people feel something.
This one goes out to all the people who are afraid of getting “triggered”. I get it, I mean there are some movies which are pretty much like miniature PTSD programs but movies aren’t just there to make you feel sad or happy or anything. Sometimes movies make you feel something because they want to make you aware that things like that can happen even in real life and sometimes they don’t; it’s really up for interpretation.
Conclusion:
Call me crazy, but I think movies are pretty much better than what some people might say about them. Maybe that’s just because I have so many of them in my heart but even if I don’t have anything to support what I said then it’s still kind of my opinion. And at the end of the day, your opinion is just as important as mine — and it’s yours.
You might not agree with me on this and that’s completely fine.
