I just got back from a long road trip through the Pacific Northwest, where I had the good fortune to visit a number of wonderful and inspiring friends. I have had a lot of fun exploring the area in between travel meetings, and was able to find a couple of new places to stay. Today, I thought it would be nice to tell you about some of the places I found while visiting.
If you haven’t been to a lot of the Pacific Northwest, then make sure you check out the area that I visited in particular: the Cascade Mountains. The Cascade Mountains are an ideal place to hike because they’re quite a distance from any other cities. They’re also incredibly beautiful, so it’s no surprise that I ended up visiting them while in the area.
The best part of visiting the Cascade Mountains is that it is completely free. You can actually hike the entire mountains without paying any money to do so. But a lot of the public trails are not that great, so I found it helpful to hike with someone who knew exactly what they were doing.
Sure, you could hike them without a hitch, but to me it was worth the trouble to see and do the stuff I did. The trails are mostly flat and mostly easy, so it was a great hike.
The thing about hiking without a hitch is that you do something for your body. By hiking with someone who knows how to hike, it’s more of a bonding experience. I was glad to be able to share my hiking experience with someone who was there to take it for me. But there are a few things you can expect if you don’t want to get paid for it. First, they may not know the best trails and could get lost, so be aware of that.
I think it’s important to realize that the trails are mostly flat and easy, so you can expect to get lost at least twice. I’ve had two people tell me they just went from a trail and were lost for a while, so be aware of that. Don’t go on any hikes without a map and the route you’re going to take, because the maps will get lost along the way.
