It is hard for me to believe that the life of a New York City man has been reduced to an article about an obituary. The obituary of a long-time Port Arthur resident has been published in the paper and there is nothing surprising about it. The article itself has become a part of Port Arthur’s collective memory.

Port Arthurs obituary was written by Edward P. Smith (1896-1983). A native of Port Arthur, he spent his life in the city and worked for the city until he passed away. He was a journalist and a newspaper editor. He was the first city editor to be appointed by the city. He was also the first editor to have a newspaper in Port Arthurs.

We have to thank the two people that made this possible, Steve and Ed. Steve (who was the city editor before Steve) took the time to write the obituary. And Ed, in addition to being a Port Arthur resident, was also a newspaper editor for Port Arthurs.

Steve, Ed, and the other deceased Port Arthur editors are all mentioned in the obituary. It may be the least we can do for each other.

He was the first City Editor to be appointed by the city, so that was a great honor and he was an editor who has been in the news a lot.

A Port Arthur obituary is a great opportunity for reporters from any paper to get in front of the public and say their piece. It can also be an opportunity to discuss the death of an individual as it happens. We wanted to give the community a chance to talk about the death of Steve.

Steve was a good man and an exceptional editor. He was truly an example of what a Port Arthur paper can be. He was a man that will be missed.

Steve was also a good guy. He had a great sense of humor and was always willing to help others. We’re told he would be very proud to see his photo in the newspaper.

The obituary of Steve McLean was posted in portarthur news.com on July 31, 2018. We wish to share his legacy with the world and thank Steve for all of his accomplishments. We also wish to share his life with our community with this announcement.
