Newport News property tax is an excellent example of a tax that is paid for by properties that are not owned by us, but are owned by our clients.

The problem is that the City of Newport News collects the tax without putting the property in service and putting the burden on the property owner to pay. This has lead to disputes with the City of Washington and in the past, has required the City to collect the tax from the property owner.

The problem with this is that it makes the property owner pay for something that they aren’t liable for, so it makes it impossible for the property owner to actually sell their property.
