The long-awaited sequel to Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde is reportedly in the works. Rumors of an early 2018 production start have been circulating for years now, finally coming to fruition earlier this summer. It seems that some MGM executives are still out for blood though and have refused to cut their losses by waiting until next year. That would leave the women of MGM all too soon as they will be able to produce a new film under their production company Reunion Pictures with The Weinstein Company as executive directors (we assume).

The films have been in a constant state of being made for the past fifteen years but only Legally Blonde 2 has been released.

Who’s In The Casting For “Legally Blonde 3”?

In terms of casting for the films, Matthew Davis who played Warner in Legally Blonde 2 and was due to play a role in Legally Blonde 3 before being cut from the film has said that he would be happy to return. In 2018 it was reported that Regina King (who played Grace in Legally Blonde 2) said she’d be interested in returning if the right script came along.

  • Jennifer Coolidge as Paulette Parcelle
  • Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods
  • Alanna Ubach as Serena
  • Jessica Cauffiel as Margot

What’s The Plotting Of  The “Legally Blonde”?

Legally Blonde 3 is expected to follow the story of Elle Woods with her new husband, whom she marries in Legally Blonde 2. The movie will also feature the wedding of Paulette and Emmett, however, their daughter will be a central villain.

The main story within the movie will also be that of Elle’s new life as a wife and mother, with the film detailing how she overcame her fears.

Few plot details have been revealed by MGM, but it is expected to be an action-driven film featuring a new cast of beloved characters from the first two films.

The third film in the Legally Blonde franchise will reportedly hit theaters in September 2018, regardless of whether or not Paramount’s merger with Viacom is completed. Although it may seem unlikely for such a late release date, considering its star Reese Witherspoon won’t even have her daughter on hand to star as her newborn baby, she seems likely to have a role in the final installment.

What’s The Release Date Of “Legally Blonde”?

Although the movies of Legally Blonde have been a long-running production, they were originally planned to be released in 2022. This year will see the film’s fifth anniversary, and the franchise is set to celebrate at the Montreal Film Festival with a mid-year release. Legally Blonde 3 has been planned for a release date, but this is unlikely as it comes after Paramount and MGM (via their late-to-the-game merger) had hoped to complete all their merger paperwork by this time.

What’s Interesting About “Legally Blonde 3”?

One of the most interesting aspects of Legally Blonde 3 is whether or not the film will take a new direction. Although the sequels have been known to follow a similar formula, they’ve also managed to change up the formula as needed. In a sense, Elle Woods started as a purely comedic character and later became more serious as time went on. The franchise has actually gone through a lot of changes in terms of plot and tone (from romantic comedy to family drama). If they go down that path with Legally Blonde 3, it’ll be interesting to see if they take this route or go back on track with the formula.

What’s The Review Of the “Legally Blonde” Series?

The Legally Blonde movies have been very well received by critics. As of September 2017, the franchise has an approval rate of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics love the franchise and it seems that the audience agrees. The franchise has a production budget of around $100 million, which is why there’s been a long wait for a film to arrive. It’s also worth mentioning that it was originally slated for a 2019 release, but after MGM had trouble completing its merger with Paramount, this date was pushed back.
